I've been quite busy in the office the past few days - my apologies for no blog Thursday and Friday.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: I've worked hard, trained hard and now, I'm going to put all my yoga-induced flexibility and Insanity strength to good use. We're off to Golf School this week! So, I'll be back in touch on Monday. In the meantime, if your swing isn't what it should be, consider acupuncture treatments to loosen up and strengthen your entire body. Have a great week.

Staying WIth Plan Sometimes Takes More Than Dedication
I took a sojurn to Florida for a few days to relax and play golf. I just lost 20lbs and have another 7lbs to reach my goal, so sticking to my lifestyle routine when out on the golf course for 4 to 5 hours per day took some planning. The morning began with a visit to Publix Supermarket. Two 2 litre bottles of water, one small container of fat free greek yoghurt, a package of freshly cut watermelon and my trusty bag of super trail mix were the weapons of choice to get me thru my day. All was well until yesterday - the final day and the most fabulous golfing experience I've had to date. I left all my packaged nutrition in the golf cart under the dashboard and went to hit some range balls. As I was striking a ball, my companion yelled to me that a thief was stealing my lunch. I turned to see a huge black bird making off with my bag of trail mix....essentially, this was the day's lunch until late in the day. This was completely unacceptable. I had been 'babying' my right knee all week after subluxing it 8 days prior, but that went completely out the window when I saw my lunch being swept away by a 'black chicken'. The end result? The golfers on this pristine, elegant and quite civilized golf course saw some crazy looking woman running at full speed, swinging her golf club in the air and yelling at a bird fleeing with her lunch to give it back or he'd be a chicken dinner. Tiger Wood's wife is no match with a golf club when it comes to my lunch being swiped before my eyes. Unfortunately the bird could fly faster and higher than I could run and jump. My last words to him were 'I hope you choke on it'. At the end of the afternoon, I sat down to a lovely tuna sandwich and revelled over the best day of golf I've ever had. My three golf companions were impressed with some of my swings...little did they know I was practicing in case I ran into that bird one of of the holes!
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Life's cirucmstances sometimes get in the way of your best-laid nutrition plans. When this happens, just do the best you can; tomorrow is another day.

Want To Improve Your Golf Game?
Golf is a sport of repetitive motion, concentration and precision. Pain or limited range of motion can be detrimental to one’s game. The golfers I treat in my practice typically present with muscle strains, spasms, limited range of motion in the upper torso and lower back, and usually experience chronic pain. Lateral and medial malleolus tendonitis (golfer’s elbow), rotator cuff tears, iliopsoas pain, tight IT bands, and wrist pain are just a few of the most common ailments. Traditional Chinese Medicine can be quite effective to prevent injury while training and resolve acute and chronic conditions.
Acupuncture increases the blood flow throughout the body. This, in turn, increases cellular nutrition. What this means in plain English: new muscle fibres can grow, lymphatic drainage can function properly and the synovial fluid can flow freely through the joint capsules. This will increase range of motion, resolve tightness and strain, eliminate pain and scar tissue. Your stroke will be freer, faster, stronger and much more precise.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: If your par isn’t what it should be, or you’d like to improve that swing…come in for an orthopedic evaluation and I will develop a program to improve your game!!

Traditional Chinese Medicine can be quite effective to prevent injury while training and resolve acute and chronic conditions. Often, immediate relief is obtained. This is because acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins. These are the body's own morphine-like substances. They are natural pain killers. These substances are responsible for the 'high' the runner feels after the effort.
How Can Acupuncture Improve Your Golf Game? By increasing the blood flow throughout the body increases cellular nutrition. What this means in plain English: new muscle fibres can grow, lymphatic drainage can function properly and the synovial fluid can flow freely through the joint capsules. Slow Down and Look Around You
This weekend, I had the privilege of playing golf at a beautiful course that overlooked the Hudson Valley. Saturday's weather couldn't have been nicer and a group of us went on a 2 hour motorcycle ride through Ulster County, NY. Being on the back of the bike as a passenger allows me a bit more freedom to really engage in the surrounding environment. We drove down winding country roads where horses, cows, chickens, turkeys and all sorts of fields painted a beautiful and interactive scenery no canvas could hope to compare. The clean fresh air, blue skies filled with puffy white clouds provided the perfect light and temperature. The smell of freshly cut hay, babbling brooks and crisp creeks gave curtsey to the wondorous aromas of the various trees, flowers and late summer foliage. I tried to soak it all into my memory so that during the dark, cold, winter months, I'd have fond memories of the seasons to come.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: slow down and take a look around you. Appreciate this season and take advantage of the wonderful weather we've been enjoying. Go for a walk in the woods, take a canoe ride on a lake, and if you can't get out of the city...take advantage of our great city parks here in the Big Apple. But slow down.....you don't always have to be in a hurry. It's good for your head and your health! Happy Monday!

It's The Simple Things That Make a Difference
Wow! What a fun weekend I had! Swam a mile, made 3 pars on the golf course (the other 15 holes we're not going to talk about), played tennis, cooked lunch for a boatload of people on the grill, went on an awesomely beautiful motorcycle ride, swam some more....oh yeah - and ate some really super cool meals! Sounds like it was a big deal, but it really was the sum of many small events and the great company that made for a fabulous weekend.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Let's continue to appreciate those micro moments in life that make the entire picture so wonderful. Whatever it was over your holiday weekend that you remember best with a smile, keep it in the front of your head and think of those memories often. It's a child's smile, a dog chasing its tail, the sun setting behind the clouds, a kiss to remember....all those magical moments are what makes life beautiful. Have a great week...get back with your healthy program and stay tuned for more healthy tips!

It's the Weekend...Let's Have Some Fun in the Sun!
I can't believe it's Friday again! Yippee! New set of golf clubs and ready to rock the weekend. We're packing our bags and it's going to be off to the course with some friends, followed by a nice boat ride and some beach fun! Nurse Sooki's coming along for the adventure and she's volunteered to write the healthy tip of the day!
Nurse Sooki Sez...Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Let's all have summertime fun, but remember a few items to pack in the bag so we can all be safe and happy and healthy...don't forget your sunscreen and don't forget the dog! Dogs get sunburnt and need the same protection as humans. Don't go boating without lifevests. Our favorite Nurse Dog already has her bright yellow life vest packed and enough water for all of us. You don't want to get dehydrated and suffer from heat/sunstroke, so bring lots of H2O! Lastly, remember your sunglasses and a hat. Your eyes are very sensitive organs and you need to shade them. If you don't wear a hat or sunscreen, you'll be sorry when your skin is looking like an old leather shoe or you find that you've gotten melanoma. A little common sense goes a long way here, folks!
Have fun this weekend. We'll be back on Monday!

Improve Your Golf Game!
I'm just so excited!!! Just the other day, I was given a gift of my very own driver and 3 wood. Now, that might not sound like a big deal to most of you out there but if you were a left-handed female golfer, you'd know what I mean. This is a right-handed world and it took great effort for my honey bunny to find these clubs for me. I might not have a great swing or a fab game going on just yet, but at least I know how to prevent golfer's elbow and soft tissue damage while participating in the activity of golf. So, today...this blog is for all you golfers out there who could improve their game significantly if you incorporated acupuncture into your lives!
The Treatment of Soft Tissue Damage with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Golf is a sport of repetitive motion, concentration and precision. Pain or limited range of motion can be detrimental to one’s game. The golfers I treat in my practice typically present with muscle strains, spasms, limited range of motion in the upper torso and lower back, and usually experience chronic pain. Lateral and medial malleolus tendonitis (golfer’s elbow), rotator cuff tears, iliopsoas pain, tight IT bands, and wrist pain are just a few of the most common ailments.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Traditional Chinese Medicine can be quite effective to prevent injury while training and resolve acute and chronic conditions. Hey....watch out, here I come onto the course with my own clubs!! FOUR!!!!!!!!! How about that hat??? :))))

Friday's Gonna Be MY DAY!
It's Friday and it's been a long and busy week. I'm sure many of you feel the same as we all see the finishline ahead of us this afternoon.
Make Fridays YOUR DAYS! Do something nice for yourself today, no matter how small or large. Treat yourself to a latte if that's what kicks your sticks. Go for a mani/pedi or 10 minute massage. Go hit some golf balls or take a run in the park. Play with your dog. Whatever it is, make sure it's something JUST FOR YOU!
Today, I'm making Friday MY DAY and going to get my hair done. I've been neglected my locks of late and I'm starting to look more like Carmella from 'the Sopranos'. For once, it's not the dog going to the beauty parlor!!!
Happy Friday! :)

Golf and the Kickboxer..Diversification
A big thank you to all who have been writing and sharing this blog with me. I'll be taking a few days off to go play golf....yes, you read it right---I'm going golfing!!!
I went to the store yesterday and bought my first golf skirt. It's not dworky, but a civilized, understated navy blue culotte. I've packed my 'magic' golf shoes, my straw hat with the gosgrain navy ribbon, my golf shirts, my momentus, and away I go!!! Good grief, I'm turning into my mother!!! (Well, that wouldn't be such a bad thing).
There's not much of a difference between golf and Muay Thai kickboxing at the end of the day. Yes...one is an activity and the other is a sport. But concentration, form, and perseverence (endurance in Muay Thai) are all common elements here. After taking up the activity of golf, I understand why professional athletes love the game so much...it's cerebral and mathematic; but it's also very social. Now, being the social butterfly that I am - I'm looking forward to a few days of chit chat, fresh air and using the opposite side of my brain...essentially, I'll be 'clearing my head'.
Here's Your Tip of the Day:
Diversity is the spice of life. Break up your usual routine today. Do something different, eat something different, try a new routine at the gym. Walk your dog around a different block; buy a different shade of lipstick. It will get you to 'think out of the box', clear your mind and take your thoughts away from the rote and mundane.
I'll be back next Thursday. For now, I'm going to leave the wraps and gloves home and go listen to the birds!!

One Week To Go
One more week until my 37 days is up! 37 days to recover from knee surgery, 37 days to getting back into good physical fitness...it's Friday and time to plot and plan the weekend.
Two days ago, it was 12 rounds of boxing and Muay Thai. So, now that I've got my fun out of the way, it's back to business:
This afternoon, it's going to be the mini trampolene and physical therapy...or, I might be ambitious and get onto the treadmill. I'll see how the knee feels. Tomorrow, maybe I will go back to yoga class.
Sunday will be more of the same and I'll hit some golf balls for a reward!
No matter what your goals are for fitness, make certain you throw some fun into the mix! It'll make all the difference in your outlook of physical fitness, you'll de-stress and sleep better. You'll look better and most likely become a happier person!
