Eat Your Breakfast

Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day:  eat your breakfast.  Make sure it contains protein, fruit, fibre, and complex carbs.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  A healthy breakfast will kickstart you into a lifestyle of better health...it's all about attitude people.  If you eat the bagels, you'll look like one.  If you go for the eggwhites, protein shakes and oatmeal or a chicken sandwich in the morning, you're blood sugar levels won't spike and drop, you'll have more energy and you'll look and feel better at the end of the day.

A Few Good Herbs Go A Long Way

Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day:  The garden looks like Sing-Sing prison, but the results are becoming outstanding.  Some of the wonderful dishes I'm serving up this week with the herbs I've planted are:  buffalo mozzarella with fresh tomatoes, basil and balsamic vinegar...chicken salad with lemon thyme, dijon mustard, a touch of mayo and horseradish....fresh tomato basil florentine soup with home made tortellini....lapin moutarde with fresh sage in white wine, shallots and dijon mustard.  It's all healthy, organic, fresh and fabulous!  How's your garden doing so far?  Care to share recipes with us?  Write in and I'll post them.

How To Prepare Food For Weekend Trips

Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day:  I maintain my healthy eating on the weekends by preparing ahead of time.  If I will be at a bbq where there will only be hot dogs and hamburgers, I cook my own chicken burger, salad, veggies and bring it along in a small cooler bag.  I have no problems taking out my own meal and enjoying a great dish while everyone else can have what kicks their own sticks.  I bring along a tupperware of soup every weekend with fruit, so my lunches and snacks are healthy, heart and fillling.
That's how I stay fit and fabulous....don't worry what other people think of you when you pull out your own meals.  Your health is YOUR responsibility and at the end of the day, you 'll feel and look great!

A Tuna Sandwich can Be Good For You

We read so much about the mercury levels in tuna but did you know that albacore tuna (this is the tuna that gets canned) can be super good for you?  If the tuna is “troll- or pole-caught” in the U.S. or British Columbia then this tuna can be nutritious.  Troll or pole caught tuna are typically younger and smaller fish, hence they do not contain high mercury levels as larger and older fish contain.  They also contain higher Omega - 3 counts, which is another healthy 'plus'.

Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day:  When at the market and looking for canned tuna, check for the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) blue eco label or do your homework - find out where and how your favorite brand of canned tuna is raised and caught.
