Yesterday, it snowed...again. Not so bad; just a smattering of the white stuff on the ground, but just enough to cause major trouble. Feeling good after a morning swim, I set out on my crutches to do a few needed errands before going to my office. Unfortunately, the fire dept. blocked off Wall Street and I was forced to walk down Exchange Place. The street is a downward slope and, unlike Wall St, it was not shoveled or salted. I slid out from under the crutches and only for a quick-minded/quick-acting gentleman, did I not fall. The poor fellow told me he had broken both legs during a ski accident 4 years ago and 'what was I doing out here in the snow?' 'Going to work like everyone else' was the answer. I had my escort down the street, but the slide caused me to hyperextend the injured leg - hence, swelling, pain and a setback after feeling good for a few hours. That's when I decided to take the advice of my colleagues and make plans to get myself out of town for a few days, get off my feet and recuperate properly. Doctor, heal thyself....
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: If you have an injury and you're going through rehab, pay attention to what you eat, how much you sleep, and if you can - take some time off to heal. Two steps forward only to take one step doubles the time it will take to completely recover....lesson learned by the pot sending the message out to all the kettles out there!

Taking The Weight Off And Acupuncture For Knee Pain
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: If you have osteoarthritis of the knees or any type of knee pain and you are more than 5 pounds overweight - get yourself on a weight reduction program today! Every extra pound you carry adds 3 pounds of excess on each knee...do the math. Ten (10) pounds of excess weight means your knees are holding 60 pounds more than they should every moment of every day. This added stress can result in degeneration of tissue and can be the cause of falls and other maladies that can result in surgery or knee replacement. Acupuncture, a healthy eating plan and exercise regime can help relieve knee pain and stave off surgery. There is a very big reason why most insurance companies will cover the treatment of acupuncture for knee pain. Don't suffer...call or email the office today! 917-701-7582 k@mondesire.com

Acupuncture Treats Arthritic Pain
"May is Arthritis Action Month, held to draw attention to the more than 100 forms of arthritis that afflict at least 50 million people in the United States and collectively cost more to treat than cancer. Mayo Clinic invites the public to ask questions during hour-long online chats with Mayo physicians about four of the most common conditions — rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia" the Mayo Clinic Twitter site 4.30.12

(rheumatoid arthritis) or osteoarthritis, call or email today for an appointment. Drug-free and no side effects...you could become pain-free...finally!

Avoid Animal Fat to Help Reduce Arthritis Pain
Animal fats are high in Omega-6 fatty acids, NOT Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids actually increase inflamation in our bodies!, Red meat, butter, and sour cream are some examples of animal fats. If you suffer from RA (rheumatoid arthritis), you should avoid these food sources and you will help minimize the pain and swelling that comes with RA. Follow a Mediterranean diet, which is plentiful in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, and lean protein sources.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: If you suffer from RA or gout or any other arthritic pain and are confused or ignorant as to which foods you should and should not eat, call or email my office today and enroll in my Wellness Program. Together, we will formulate a plan that will suit your lifestyle and help you reduce your pain and inflamation. A caveat: acupuncture is highly effective in the treatment for arthritic pain. Enroll today!

World Arthritis Day is TODAY
Today is World Arthritis Day. The aims of World Arthritis Day are:
To raise awareness of arthritis in all its forms among the medical community, people with arthritis and the general public
To influence public policy by making decision-makers aware of the burden of arthritis and the steps which can be taken to ease it
To ensure all people with arthritis and their caregivers are aware of the vast support network available to them.
The Worldarthritisday website is supported and managed by EULAR, the European League Against Rheumatism.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Neither Western nor Chinese Medicine cannot cure osteoarthritis nor rheumatoid arthritis. But...Traditional Chinese Medicine can alleviate the pain, discomfort, swelling and limited range of motion experienced by both conditions...drug free and without any evil side effects. So, if you or anyone you know suffers from arthritis, have them contact me. If they are not in the immediate geographic area, I will try to find them an expert practitioner to help relieve their pain and suffering.

Laughter and Love Are Great Medicine
Today is Nurse Sooki's 14th Birthday!!!! Let's all send my trusty clinic therapy dog best wishes for 14 more years of adventure!! My favorite furry friend is getting grilled fish and chicken today...two of her favorites!
Sooki's healthy tip of the day: fatty omega 3 fish is great for the joints, digestion, skin and hair. Take it from the Blonde Bombshell (and that ain't me!), she's been getting her fish, chicken, beef, occassional rabbit, duck and rooster along with fruits, veggies and salads for years....no wonder I'm broke! She eats me outta house and home. But, Nurse Sooki Sez: Eat well, exercise, love, laugh and get lots of physical petting and hugging - you'll live long, happy and healthy! And let's not forget....some good street garbage and junk food every once in a while does wonders for all of us!
Take it from the dog....she knows best!
Check out Nurse Sooki Sez: Woofs of Wisdom From the Nurse Dog of Wall Street, available at http://www.blurb.com/. It's Nurse Sooki's very own book about her Tales on Wall Street as a Therapy Dog!!
