It always fascinates me how many American parents offer garbage to their children at the meal table...luncheon meats full of synthetics and sodium, mac n cheese that has nothing but fat and carbs and tastes like paste, hot dogs that are composed of byproducts you cannot pronounce, pizza that is nothing but dough, fat, sodium and heaven knows what else....the list goes on and on and on. Many of these children have retarded culinary palates and few ever develop their taste buds. The result? They become fat children from what they are given to eat. Childhood obesity leads to adult obesity. These people become the adults who order the 2 slices of pizza for lunch, the donut or bagel for breakfast and the burger for dinner. They develop diabetes, heart disease and other life threatening diseases.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Be a good parent and guard your child's health. Help your child develop his or her culinary palate. Serve fresh vegetables, fish, poultry, meats, legumes at the table. Do not assume that because they are young they won't like 'adult' food...this is quite a silly and ignorant thought of most parents. Offer fresh fruits for snacks and instead of pizza parties, cook a turkey breast and make fresh cranberry sauce and teach the kids how to make a turkey club...how sophisticated, healthy and tasty!
