Enhanced waters are flavored waters that have electrolytes, vitamins and minerals added. Some examples of flavored waters are: Smartwater, Aquafina Flavor Splash, Propel, O Beverages and Vitaminwater. Many people prefer these waters because the 'plain-ness' taste of regular water just doesn't do it for them. So, what's the hype with these products?
Some of these flavored waters do not contain all the electrolytes that are excreted in sweat (sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and chloride). The vitamins and minerals that are added to these waters do not necessarily mean that you'll be any healthier than you already are if you're maintaining a healthy diet.
Be careful when choosing a flavored water; many of these items contain artificial sweeteners and/or sugars.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Read the ingredients on all flavored waters. Quite frankly, you'd be better off drinking plain ole water with fresh lemon or lime wedges. Homemade herbal teas refrigerated can be really awesome, especially in the summertime!
