I just spent 5 wonderful days in South Florida swimming in a salt water pool, sweating it up in the gym, playing golf and eating remarkably well for being on holiday. Those 'fat' pants were fitting a bit better and after the end of the five days, my knee is feeling much, much more improved!
Here's your tip of the day: swimming is great exercise and quite therapeutic for those suffering from joint pain. When done with proper form, swimming can give you a great aerobic workout, without impact to the joints. All body parts are worked while you're in the water and if you mix up your strokes, you'll avoid becoming bored by doing repetitive laps. So, if you can get to a pool, mix up your workout and take a dip! Take along a friend and swim side by side...companionship in the water is fun and keeps the pace going.
If you are suffering from joint pain from injury or you have arthritis, come in for a treatment...acupuncture and low level laser therapy are highly effective for the treatment of these pathologies.
The warm weather is coming and so is Spring!!! So, start getting busy and get healthy!s

Hi Kelley:
ReplyDeleteI used swimming as therapy for my tri-mal ankle injury this summer. I use flippers on my feet to get max benefits from it. They sell them specifically for this purpose..google it. It is also great because they keep you afloat and in proper form. Can't wait to open my pool in May!! -Voni
Hi there, Voni,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Yes, flippers are a wonderful way to get more out of your kicks and really adds some 'umph' to your workout! If anyone is interested in flippers, pullbouys or other gear, just google swim gear online and there are a few mailorder companies with different types of gear made specifically for your workout! That must be a really big pool...who's invited?? :)
Took A nice long sunny walk today! Sure feels like spring is in the air. We swim (or try to!) once a week! Swim, soak, socialize with the girls makes for a great Friday night! We use the Holiday Inn's pool near us. After our initial laps we gather in the deep end for treading water and catching up! I can still do back sumersaults under water, aka like those water ballet moves!!! Also a great place to stretch - we all try to grab a heel or toe and straighten out the leg. I'm still flexible for an old broad!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Connie! If anyone is interested in more information on training while in a pool, google 'triathlon' or 'triathlete'. There are wonderful online chat groups and free information on many different drills you can practice in the pool for a better workout and better form!
ReplyDeleteKelley,
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty decent sized pool and you are invited any time!!! Take the Port Jeff train to Northport and I will pick you up. Oh and the pool is heated and is salt water generated, no chlorine....nasty chemicals.
Voni
oh yeah!!! I'm in!!!!!!
