The Unviersity of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio has posted a report that 'people drinking two or more diet sodas per day had a six-times-greater increase in waist circumference at the end of the 10 year study than the people in the study who didn't drink diet soda.'(Source: Eating Well Jan/Feb 2012). The researchers believe the diet soda drinkers justified eating other fattening foods because they felt they saved calories on the diet sodas, or because the artificial sweeteners in the diet sodas cajoled the sweet flavor yearning in the test group.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: the next time you think about ordering a diet soda, think again. Look at the ingredients on the can and think 'Cancer, Carcinogens, Can't be good for me'. Order a seltzer with a splash of cranberry and lime, or an Arnold Palmer, or mineral water with lemon or lime. It's much more civilized, satisfying and sans the chemicals and disgusting artificial sweet taste that gives you halotosis at the bottom of the glass. There will be no blog on Monday, President's Day and the office will be closed. Stay tuned for more Healthy Tips on Tuesday. Happy Weekend!
