Acupuncture and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Brain tissue is extremely vulnerable and can be damaged by external forces.  Types of traumatic brain injury (TBI) are typically resultant from penetrating head injuries (eg:  shrapnel) or severe blows to the cranium (car accidents, sporting events, falls).  Internal bruising and bleeding can occur in the brain due to the blunt trauma.  Nerve damage can occur and lacerations can be found on brain tissue.  Swelling of the brain, seizures, fevers, severe headaches, memory and motor function loss, and imbalance of neurological chemicals can occur due to TBI.
Most cases of TBI are treatable.  In addition to physical therapy, acupuncture is an effective, painless, and drug-free therapy to treat TBI.  Scalp acupuncture stimulates the portions of the brain affected by the injury; stimulates neurological messages to the Central Nervous System (CNS), that will, in turn, send neurotransmitters, hormones and blood circulation to the affected area to help repair brain tissue and nerve damage.

Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day:  If you know someone who has experienced Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), refer them to my office.  I have had years of experience dealing with patients suffering from the effects of TBI.  917-701-7582  k@kmondesire.com
