Permanent makeup (micropigmentation), is a tattoo that mimics makeup. Usually, people have their eyes tattooed to mimic eyeliner, or their lips for lip liner or eyebrow lines. Here are some pros and cons of permanent makeup:
Pros: Permanent makeup saves time and can be beneficial if you need glasses to apply makeup or if regular cosmetics irritate your eyes or skin.
Cons: Like any tattoo, these tattoos can change and fade with time. One factor to consider: as you age and your face shows the signs of looser skin, less elasticity and collagen, your tattoos can take on the appearance of being a crooked eyeliner, or in the case of lips - you could have the appearance of dirt around your lips...not very attractive, indeed!
Tatto sessions usually take an hour, and several sessions might be necessary to achieve your desired results. Tattooed skin can be red, swollen, and itchy, and may ooze, crust, or scab. These signs and symptoms usually dissipate after a week.
Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day: Know before you go...ask a plastic surgeon, dermatologist, or friend whose tattoo you admire for a referral to a reputable permanent-makeup artist.
