Building Strength the Better Way

Have you ever watched some people at a gym trying to balance on one foot atop an unstable surface?  It's one of the reasons why I always carry business cards with me.  So many of these individuals believe that they will become stronger if they can manage to balance on an unstable surface.  More often than not, these persons become nothing but injured in the long run.  Did you know that there is no proven study to determine that exercise performed on an unstable surface yields more strength than if done on a firm surface?
Even in Muay Thai kickboxing, where we are always on our tip toes, ready to strike with knees, legs, arms, and elbows, we always train on a firm surface.

Here's Your Healthy Tip of the Day:  If you believe you need to strengthen your ankles or lower legs, try leg lifts, calf raises and doing the old-fashioned alphabet with your ankles.  You'll be very surprised with the increase of strength, balance and stamina you'll attain after doing these simple exercises every day for a month.
