This is Memorial Day Weekend. Hot dogs, burgers, surfing and sailing aside, let's all take a moment to remember and reflect what Memorial Day is all about. Veterans are men and women who, for whatever their reasons, gave their time, tears, lives and years so that we can enjoy those dogs, burgers and days of freedom. The veterans of the American Revolution ensured that we weren't going to 'bow or kow tow' to anyone. Our veterans of the American Civil War gave their lives and limbs so that all of us could be free men and women. Most recently, our men and women have been leaving their loved ones at home to put their lives on the line so that we can be safer. Politics aside, the United States is one of the few countries where there are no metal detectors at the doors of supermarkets (Istanbul for example...homegrown terrorism) or where there isn't a huge explosion happening on a regular basis - randomly killing innocent beings.
We have this false sense of comfort because of our veterans. Many of them have been forgotten once they've come home from service - trying to adjust to a 'normal' life, trying to get work and do their lives like any of us. Many suffer from PTSD, chronic pain, physical disabilities and social retardation.
Here's Your Healthy Tips for the Weekend: Remember your fellow Americans who have given their lives for you. If you know a vet, young or old...give them a call or send them a card. Let them know how much you appreciate them for being who they are. Do something to make him or her happy.
And remember this:
Terrorism Equals Cowardice. Terrorists don't have guts enough to look at their perceived enemy in the eye...they're nothing but sneaks and no good losers!
