Abuse in Any Form is Wrong

This morning, the Today Show aired a segment about the young lady who was beaten to death on the university campus in Virginia.  22 years old, pretty, athletic, most likely very smart with schooling...and dead.

We don't know the whole story - why this girl allowed another person to physically abuse her until she was beaten to death, but we do know that other people around her noticed how she was being abusively treated by her boyfriend.  Although the young victim might not have shared what was going on concerning her intimate relationship with the suspect, there were certainly warning signs.  Someone could have spoken up.  Someone could have called a victim's abuse hotline.  Some small action on the part of her 'friends' and 'classmates and teammates' could have prevented another brutal murder.

Physical abuse is a terrible crime.  Men, women, children, institutionalized persons and the elderly are often the undeserving victims of abuse.  It is EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US that bears the responsibility to speak up and report abuse.  Otherwise, we become nothing more than accessories to the crime.

If you are being abused or you believe someone you know is a victim of abuse, go online to the victims abuse hotline and become informed, make a toll free phone call to them, and do the right thing.  Get out of an abusive situation immediately and/or help someone else free themselves of abuse.

That's all I have to say today.
